3 Reasons You Shouldn’t Store Your Car at a Self Storage Facility
Many times customers opt to store their vehicles at self-storage facilities instead of with us. Some do it because it is less expensive. Others do it because they want an individual garage for the vehicle in question.
While this may seem appealing, it can end up being a bad decision. Here are 3 reasons why:
They Wont Maintain Your Vehicle
Most self-storage companies will not go into the unit and maintain your vehicle. They will expect you to do that. This is inconvenient if you are going out of town and cannot access it.
Dead batteries, clogged fuel lines, bad fuel pumps, and flat spots in your tires can all add up to big bucks upon your return.
They Do Not Insure Vehicles
From our experience, most self-storage facilities make you maintain full insurance coverage because they will (attempt) to wave their liability of any fire theft collision or vandalism issues.
They Do Not Have the Expertise
While I can appreciate the fact that self storage companies want to expand their service offerings to a new type of customer, the simple matter is that most of these companies to not have the staff, equipment, or knowledge to handle a car (and customer) that is both valued and valuable.
All of this being said, we are not out to defame self-storage companies. There are probably several out there who will take good care of your vehicle. However this post is based on knowledge that we have gathered over many years of serving vehicle storage customers, what they tell us when shopping around, and our own market analysis.
Do your due diligence and you will make the right choice.
